TDS completes acquisition of Merrimac Communications in Merrimac, Wis.

With the transaction complete, TDS is ready to begin transitioning customers.

MADISON, Wis. (Feb. 1, 2018) — TDS Metrocom, LLC a subsidiary of TDS Telecom (TDS®), announces it has purchased the communications network and business operations of Merrimac Communications, Ltd. in Merrimac, Wis. TDS will immediately begin working to transition customers and planning improvements to the network, which passes more than 6,000 homes.

“We look forward to serving the customers of Merrimac Communications and transitioning them to TDS’ state-of-the-art solutions,” states Jim Butman, president and CEO of TDS. “As we invest in the network, customers will begin enjoying some of the fastest, most reliable communications services in the state. This, in turn, will help accelerate growth and economic development throughout the region.”

In November 2017, TDS announced they had signed a purchase agreement to acquire Merrimac Communications. The company provides cable TV, internet, and phone service to thousands of residents and businesses in parts of Sauk, Columbia, and Dane counties, including:

  • Towns of Merrimac, Caledonia, Sumpter, Prairie du Sac, Roxbury, Mazomanie, Greenfield, and West Point
  • Villages of Sauk City, Prairie du Sac, and Merrimac

TDS' plans include launching TDS TV® service and further building out the fiber optic network to serve more area residents.

Today's announcement follows a series of recent acquisitions by TDS. In May 2017, TDS purchased the Sun Prairie Utilities fiber network in Sun Prairie, Wis. Within months, TDS had completed a network upgrade and launched new fiber- to-the-home services. TDS has also expanded its cable portfolio over the past 12 months, with purchases of the communications networks and businesses of Crestview Cable Communications in Central Oregon and K2 Communications, LLC in Mead, Colo.

The Pat Thompson Co. assisted Merrimac Communications with this transaction. Terms of the agreement will not be disclosed.
