TDS marks second phase of rural upgrades in Dane County, Wis. with groundbreaking in Town of Perry

MADISON, Wis. — TDS Telecommunications LLC (TDS®) marked the start of the second phase of its Enhanced Alternative Connect America Cost Model (E-ACAM) broadband expansion in Dane County with a ceremonial groundbreaking June 2 in the Town of Perry. TDS representatives were joined by Sen. Howard Marklein (R-Spring Green) and Rep. Jenna Jacobson (D-Oregon) as well as Jaron McCallum, Dane County Broadband Coordinator.

“Starting work in the Town of Perry and surrounding communities is an exciting next step in our rural internet upgrades in Dane County and another example of our commitment to improving broadband access in the rural communities we serve,” said Kit Beyer, TDS director of external affairs and communications. “We’re pleased to continue expanding the availability of high-speed internet in Dane County and bring more rural residents and businesses the connectivity they need.”

The event builds momentum from last year’s groundbreaking in Black Earth, where TDS celebrated the start of construction on the rural Dane County internet upgrade project supported, in part, by federal funding.

E-ACAM is a federal broadband program that supports deployment of broadband internet services in rural areas. TDS is participating in the program and providing private investment to help bridge the digital divide and expand access to high-speed broadband in some of the most rural parts of its service territory.

TDS has expanded the construction project to go beyond the federally supported areas to include its entire legacy footprint in Dane County. Together, the effort reflects TDS’ long-term investment in bringing faster, more reliable broadband service to rural communities across the area.

Construction is happening in phases that will ultimately deliver speeds of at least 100/20 Mbps to approximately 11,000 Dane County addresses, with even faster connections available to most customers. The new services are launching to customers as work is completed and will reach rural addresses in the cities and towns of Black Earth, Middleton and Verona, the village of Waunakee, as well as the towns of Blanchardville, Cross Plains, Dane, Montrose, Springfield, Springdale, and Vienna.  

Throughout TDS’ service areas, TDS Connect, the company's affordable high-speed service option, continues to be available to eligible customers.
