TDS launches faster broadband speeds in four central Wisconsin communities

TDS Telecommunications LLC (TDS^®) has launched faster internet speeds for customers in Neillsville, Medford, Mosinee, and Junction City, marking the first phase of multi-year broadband upgrade projects in each central Wisconsin community. The projects are now delivering speeds of up to 1,000 Mbps (1 Gig), depending on location.

The high-speed data infrastructure upgrades are supported, in part, by the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) Enhanced Alternative Connect America Cost Model program (E-ACAM). The program helps expand broadband access in rural areas by supporting and requiring carriers to deliver service of at least 100/20 Mbps to eligible locations. Beyond offering faster than required top speeds, TDS is also investing its own funds to bring faster internet options to additional locations not covered by the federal program.

Across all four projects, TDS has installed nearly 350 miles of fiber and connected nearly 5,500 addresses. The completed work represents the first launch of multi-phase projects in each community. E-ACAM eligible locations will be upgraded by the end of 2028, however TDS plans to continue expanding access to high-speed connections leveraging its own capital investment.

Customers will receive upgraded speeds as sections of the network are completed and service becomes available. TDS continues to offer landline and mobile phone service, and TV service where available. The Wisconsin-headquartered company also has a low-cost, high-speed service called TDS Connect available to eligible customers.
