Windsor, Wis. is the next community for new TDS fiber-to-the-home network
Gigabit-speed broadband network to provide residents and businesses with new choice for internet, TV, and phone services and future-proof the community with advanced communications technology.
TDS Telecommunications LLC (TDS Telecom/TDS®) announces plans to construct a new fiber-to-the-home broadband network in the village of Windsor, Wisconsin.
Unlike traditional copper wire or coaxial cable systems, fiber-optic technology uses light beams to carry massive amounts of information to power the fastest internet and entertainment services. A thread of fiber-optic cable, which is only slightly thicker than a human hair, can carry phone, internet, and video services that are in demand by today’s highly connected families. In fact, by building a fiber network, TDS will be able to offer internet speeds of 600 Mbps to 1Gigabit.
“This is a full, fiber-to-the-home deployment, not just a fiber-rich network, and it offers huge benefits, for both residents and area businesses,” says Jim Butman, president and CEO of TDS.
To deliver these advanced new services, TDS will invest significant, private capital. Butman adds, “We are future-proofing Windsor with technology that will grow with this community for many, many years to come.”
TDS plans to fully complete the project in 2019. Then, with up to Gigabit speed access, Windsor can tout itself as one of the most highly-connected communities in the nation. Telecommuters, telemedicine, online education students, gamers, and movie enthusiasts will all enjoy the fastest speeds available. To learn more, visit tdsfiber.com.
TDS launched similar next-generation services in nearby Sun Prairie last September. This spring, TDS announced similar plans to construct fiber-to-the-home networks in McFarland, Oregon and DeForest, Wisconsin. In addition, TDS extended fiber access to Madison businesses in five parts of the city.
TDS is the seventh largest local exchange telephone company in the U.S. with 1.2 million connections to high-speed internet, phone, and TV entertainment services in nearly 900 rural, suburban, and metropolitan communities. For more information, visit tdsfiber.com.
