TDS® announces three ARRA broadband stimulus projects now accessible to customers

Customers in Wisconsin and Indiana gain access to high-speed Internet service; more customers will be connected during the next few months.

TDS Telecommunications Corp. (TDS®) announces parts of three American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) stimulus-funded broadband Internet projects are now accessible to customers. This includes residents around Reeseville, Beetown, and Potosi Wis., and Camden, Ind. (See maps.)

Construction on the stimulus-funded projects will continue and should wrap up by the end of the year.

The Reeseville area project, once complete will connect about 200 residents to high-speed Internet service. In total, a little more than six miles of fiber optics cabling is being installed and six cabinets (which protect the advanced network electronics) are being placed throughout TDS’ Riverside Telecom, LLC.

The Beetown and Potosi projects are part of TDS’ Farmers Telephone Company, LLC, and, once complete, about 500 residents will gain access to high-speed Internet service. About eight and a half miles of fiber optics cabling is being installed and nine cabinets are being placed as part of this project.

TDS’ stimulus-funded project near Camden, Ind., includes about seven miles of fiber optics cabling and six cabinets. Once complete, about 300 residents in TDS’ Camden Telephone Company, Inc. will have access to high-speed Internet service.

In all areas, once service is accessible, TDS will let customers know they can sign up for services via U.S. mail.

TDS is receiving funding for 44 projects, including these projects in Wisconsin and Indiana, from the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Rural Utilities Service (RUS) as part of the ARRA.

Nationwide, more than 95 percent of TDS customers already have access to high-speed Internet service. TDS is intent on providing as many remaining customers with broadband connectivity as possible. According to TDS, federal stimulus funds are helping to close the gap and deliver Internet connectivity to more than 20,000 customers.
