TDS Telecommunications Corp. enters Consent Decree with FCC
National communications company self-reports CPNI oversight
TDS Telecommunications Corp. (TDS) has entered into a Consent Decree with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) based on self-reported findings which now concludes the inquiry.
The following statements can be attributed to Kevin Hess, Sr. Vice President of Government and Regulatory Affairs for TDS Telecommunications Corp.
“During a review of federal compliance practices, our internal investigation found that new TDS customers did not receive a ‘Welcome Packet’ with appropriate Customer Proprietary Network Information (CPNI) disclosures and opt-out mechanisms included. As such, some customers may have received unwanted product advertisements. At no time did any proprietary customer information become disclosed. Moreover, TDS received no customer complaints related to this oversight.”
“Upon our self- discovery and associated self-reporting efforts to the FCC in 2011, we immediately began correcting the process for Welcome Packet distribution and integrated voice response systems to ensure every customer received the proper information and required notifications. We addressed the process issues using several manual and technical measures to assist employees and continue to vigorously monitor the process to maintain this consumer compliance effort.”
TDS Telecommunications Corp. will make a voluntary contribution in the amount of $350,000.00 to the US Treasury as part of the Consent Decree issued on Nov. 15, 2012 by the FCC.
