A month in, nine Sun Prairie neighborhoods approved for TDS Fiber build

Of the 25 designated neighborhoods in Sun Prairie, Wis., fiber build out begins in nine of them.

TDS Telecom announces nine of the 25 designated Sun Prairie, Wis. neighborhoods have reached their registration goal and are now approved for a TDS fiber build. The news comes on the heels of TDS finalizing the purchase of existing Sun Prairie Utilities assets a month ago.

“We’re thrilled residents are so excited to get TDS Fiber service,” said Shane West, vice president of Marketing and Product Development at TDS. “The outpouring of registrations—more than 1,000—has been phenomenal. Sun Prairie residents are clearly looking forward to having access of up to 1 gigabit internet speeds and TDS TV service.”

The first customer installations will begin in the fall. They will continue, neighborhood by neighborhood, as the network segments come online. Each neighborhood must meet a registration goal and deadline before a buildout will be guaranteed. Residents can register and check the status of their neighborhood by visiting TDSFiber.com.

The fiber construction is being completed by three companies contracted by TDS: InterCon Construction, Northwest Cable Construction, and White Construction. They are accessing right of ways and utility easements to bury cable to expand the existing fiber infrastructure. Changes and upgrades will also be made to pedestals and hub boxes as part of the buildout.

Construction on the fiber buildout in Sun Prairie is expected to be completed by the end of 2018.
