TDS Sun Prairie fiber buildout complete
1Gig speeds now available to 10,200 households.
TDS Telecom (TDS®) has completed construction on its fiber network in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, the company’s first build outside of its market areas. The $15.2 million project, which followed the company’s purchase of Sun Prairie Utilities (SPU) assets last year, offers Sun Prairie residents up to 1Gig internet speed, video, and phone service.
“It’s a big win for Sun Prairie residents and businesses that now have access to world-class internet,” said Jim Butman, president and CEO at TDS. “We invested in the community with a goal to grow, accelerate, and enhance what the city of Sun Prairie had started. We couldn’t be more pleased with the outcome.”
TDS began the network expansion weeks after closing on the purchase of SPU’s telecommunications assets in May 2017. The first customers were connected that September and network construction was completed in less than a year and a half.
The build included installing more than 170 miles of fiber across Sun Prairie, adding six new Digital Serving Areas and 30 new Fiber Distribution Hubs to the original SPU fiber footprint and upgrading existing equipment to bring video and phone service options for customers who had been on the SPU network. Beyond the investment in the network expansion, TDS opened a demo space in the city and has sponsored more than 25 local events since 2017.
“Although this project is complete we remain committed to being an active member of the community,” says Butman. “We are proud to be a part of Sun Prairie’s current and future success.”
With network construction finished, TDS will wrap-up the remaining connection work and begin installing services to the final neighborhoods. Sun Prairie residents can visit TDSFiber.com to learn more about the services offered and call 888-225-5837 to sign up for service.
