Wisconsin High school seniors: $500 and $1,500 scholarships now available
If you’re a Wisconsin High School senior: Now’s the time to apply for a Wisconsin State Telecommunications Foundation (WSTF) scholarship through TDS Telecommunications Corp. (TDS®).
Interested seniors can pick up an application from their high school guidance counselor or online at the WSTF web site. To be eligible for the one-time $500 or $1,500 scholarships, applications are due to TDS by Feb. 3, 2014.
“TDS appreciates the opportunity to be part of this project, supporting high school seniors as they pursue a college degree,” says Andrew Petersen, vice president of External Affairs and Communications for TDS. “We’re proud to again team up with the WSTF to make this scholarship available. It’s a good feeling, knowing we’re helping to make college more affordable for the young people in the communities we serve."
TDS is teaming with other incumbent telephone companies across the state to offer the WSTF scholarships. In 2013, the Foundation awarded $55,500 to 42 students statewide, including:
$1,500 scholarships to 32 graduating high school students
A $1,500 Bruce Reuber Memorial Scholarship
$750 scholarships to six first-year students attending Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College's Electronics Telecommunications Program
$500 scholarships to three technical college students
In March, the WSTF panel will review all submitted applications. Finalists will be selected based on grades, academic achievements, and extra-curricular activities. Scholarships will be presented, starting in May, during the recipient’s high school graduation ceremony or awards night programs.
Since 1966, the Foundation has awarded more than $1.3 million in scholarships to 1,055 students. The Foundation is part of the Wisconsin State Telecommunications Association, a trade organization representing more than 65 Incumbent Local Exchange Carriers (including TDS), Internet Service Providers, and Wireless Carriers in Wisconsin.
