On Giving Tuesday, TDS® employees are in the spirit
TDS employees volunteer as Porchlight Angels, donating food and gifts to those in need this holiday season.
This morning, Porchlight Inc. was at TDS Telecommunications Corp. (TDS®) picking up gifts and food from TDS employees who are volunteering as Porchlight Angels. Today, on what’s being called “Giving Tuesday,” TDS employees are in the spirit, sponsoring nearly 40 families and individuals.
This year marks the fourth year that TDS employees are volunteering to be Porchlight Angels, donating gifts and food to bring a little holiday cheer to those who might otherwise go without.
Porchlight, Inc. is a local agency focusing on providing a helping hand — not a handout. The agency offers emergency shelter, food, employment services, counseling, and affordable transitional and permanent housing to homeless people in Dane County.
According to Carrie Schuettpelz, coordinator of Porchlight Angels, “TDS and their employees really make our Porchlight Angels program a success. Their support and generosity help bring joy to so many who, otherwise, may not receive anything during the holidays.”
In addition to gifts and food for the Christmas holiday, Porchlight Angels also donate turkeys and hams for the Thanksgiving holiday. This year, TDS employees donated nearly 200 pounds of turkey and 44 pounds of ham to Porchlight individuals and families.
“It’s truly impressive to see all the wrapped gifts and food filling minivan after minivan for those in need,” says Andrew Petersen, vice president of External Affairs and Communications at TDS. “Seeing our employees step up and help those in need is heartwarming and inspiring. Our company encourages volunteerism and helping others. This outpouring of support is truly rewarding.”
For TDS, the holiday giving doesn’t stop there. TDS is also collecting items for a number of non-profit organizations throughout the county.
