Necedah Area School District in Wis. receives $2,500 federal technology grant
TDS® sponsors program; only 10 schools nationwide receiving FRED grant
Earlier this week, the Necedah School District in central Wisconsin received a $2,500 technology grant from the Foundation for Rural Education and Development (FRED). During the school board’s monthly meeting, TDS Telecommunications Corp. (TDS®), a supporting member of FRED, presented the check to the middle and high school principal. TDS also surprised the school with a Kindle Fire.
The Necedah School District is one of only 10 schools in the United States receiving a FRED technology grant. The district will use the funds to purchase fourth generation iPod Touches. They will be used in the first grade classroom in support of the district’s Mobile Computing Initiative.
“We believe technology should be constantly and seamlessly integrated into the lives of our students,” said Mark Becker, principal of the Necedah Middle and High School. “Our students deserve the best education possible. Using the 1:1 devices is a more inquiry-based approach to learning in which students take charge of their learning experience. For these reasons we applied for the technology grant.”
“TDS is proud to present this check to the school district,” says Kevin Kaiser, business sales and support manager for TDS. “It’s an honor to be part of the FRED program and to help make a difference in the academic success of so many young people.”
The FRED grant program, now in its eleventh year, awards funds to public schools. Working in cooperation with their local telecommunications companies, the schools focus on increasing the use of technology to enhance students’ learning experience.
