Minn. high school students encouraged to apply for $2,000 scholarships
Scholarships to be awarded by Minnesota Telecom Alliance Foundation and TDS.
Minnesota high school seniors are encouraged to apply for a scholarship from the Minnesota Telecom Alliance Foundation (MTA). TDS Telecommunications Corp. (TDS®), incumbent telephone companies, and cooperatives across Minnesota are teaming up to help the MTA offer a handful of $2,000 scholarships.
Applications for the one-time scholarships are available at the MTA web site. To be eligible, applications must be postmarked by Feb. 26, 2016 and applicants must:
- Be accepted and attend a post-secondary university, college or technical college starting in the fall of 2016;
- Be a Minnesota resident, and
- Have an immediate family member who subscribes to at least one service from TDS Telecom (phone, Internet and/or TDS TV).
This spring, a panel of MTA Foundation members will review the applications and select finalists based on grades, academic achievements, and extra-curricular activities. Preference is given to students with an interest in telecommunications technology and rural communities.
“We’re proud to support this scholarship and ensure that high school seniors in Minnesota have the opportunity to pursue a college degree,” says Jean Pauk, State Government Affairs manager at TDS. “It’s a great feeling to help make college a little more affordable for the young people in the communities we serve."
The Foundation is part of the Minnesota Telecom Alliance, a trade that advocates and represents the interests of over 80 telecommunications providers throughout Minnesota’s metropolitan and rural communities, including TDS.
