TDS expands fiber network in some Madison, Wis., neighborhoods

TDS Telecom’s (TDS®) faster Internet speeds and expanded TV services are on the way to parts of Madison, Wisconsin’s west side that are within the TDS ILEC exchange territory.

As a project to expand its fiber network continues in Verona, TDS will expand its revolutionary services to a few west Madison neighborhoods that lay within the boundaries of its ILEC exchange. Increased Internet speeds of up to 1 gigabit—the fastest Internet possible—and TDS TV® will be introduced to customers. TDS TV is an Internet Protocol (IP)-based TV already available in some Madison neighborhoods.

Construction begins for the fiber expansion project earlier this month, and is expected to be completed in early 2016. TDS is building over former copper infrastructure in Verona to replace it with fiber and adding new fiber to neighborhoods without either service.

Madison customers in the expansion area can expect access to higher internet speeds and TDS TV late this year. Residents can go to TDSfiber.com/where/Verona to find out if they live within the expanded territory.

“With the success of TDS TV and fiber infrastructure elsewhere across the country, we couldn’t be more excited to expand the services,” says Julie Maiers, director of Marketing at TDS. “It means faster speeds, a new choice for TV service, and the opportunity for exclusive discounts.”

Those discounts are a part of TDS Fiberville™, a concept that rewards residents and neighborhoods with special offers and discounts once 15 percent of the neighborhood pre-registers for TDS TV service. When this happens, “Fiberville” status is achieved and each pre-registered household receives free HD for life.

“Fiberville offers residents a unique opportunity to get out and talk to their neighbors and to get extra savings for as long as they’re a TDS customer,” Maiers said. “It’s also a great chance to get fantastic TV service. Customers tell us how much they enjoy TDS TV, the included DVR, and how easy it is to use.”

TDS TV is powered by Mediaroom® and features more than 260 all-digital channels (including 100+ in HD), on-demand TV and movies, pay-per-view, and on-the-go viewing options with TDS TV Everywhere. With TDS TV Everywhere, customers can watch movies, shows, and live content for free from their mobile devices.

TDS TV includes a whole-home DVR, which links all TVs together in a home so customers can:
Record up to four shows at once in HD;
Connect up to 10 TVs to enable DVR functionality on all;
Schedule and playback recordings on any connected TV; and
Store up to 400 hours of programming (standard-definition).

Wireless set-top boxes are also available with TDS TV. Without being tethered to a cable jack, wireless set-top boxes allow customers the flexibility to move their TVs anywhere in a room—all that’s needed is a power outlet.
