First stimulus-funded community gets high-speed Internet
As soon as TDS announced availability of high-speed Internet service in its first stimulus-funded area (in and around Chatham, Mich.) customers began signing up. In the first month alone, more than 300 people signed up. Orders continue pouring in.
Just over 125 miles of fiber-optic cabling was installed and 29 cabinets (which protect the advanced network electronics) were placed throughout the area to provide high-speed Internet access to more residents.
This spring, several more stimulus-funded projects are scheduled to be finished. That means about 1,600 more households in a handful of states will soon have access to high-speed Internet service. Nearly all of our stimulus-funded projects will be completed by year-end.
Background: In 2009-2010, TDS was awarded 44 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act grants to expand broadband Internet service to people and businesses in 20 states. Click for details and updates.
