TDS® installing fiber optics in Grand Chute, Wis. Business Park

Company to invest $750,000 building fiber network to about 200 businesses on the western edge of Appleton

TDS Telecom (TDS®) announces construction is underway on a $750,000 fiber network in Grand Chute, Wis. Once complete, about 200 businesses will gain access to Internet speeds — up to 1 gigabit — in the Grand Chute Business Park, located near the Fox River Mall on the western edge of Appleton.

“As technology continues to grow and change, we know businesses want and need more speed,” says Jim Butman, group president of Marketing, Sales and Customer Operations at TDS. “This investment will allow us to deliver the speeds businesses want including those that are beyond the traditional services available today.”

Construction is just getting underway and is expected to wrap-up by the end of July. In total, TDS will be installing about 22,000 feet (approx. four miles) of fiber within the Grand Chute Business Park. Appleton-based White Construction Co. is doing the network construction.

“It’s about helping businesses be ‘future-ready,’” added Butman. “The needs for Internet, voice and data are continually changing and businesses are demanding faster speeds and increased bandwidth. With this new fiber network, we’ll be able to meet their future communications needs. Plus, they will have a local business partner in TDS to help engineer the network specifically to their business’s needs.”

This fiber-build is part of TDS’ strategy to expand fiber into business parks to provide area businesses a competitive advantage. TDS has also expanded fiber to business parks in Neenah, Kimberly and Appleton.

Fiber-optic connections increase productivity and efficiency by making everything quicker. With fiber, businesses will enjoy:
Super-fast Internet connections, up to 1 gigabit;
Running multiple applications simultaneously without interruption;
Faster upload speeds for backing up data more quickly and easily; and
Quicker internal/external communications—email, video conferencing, IP phone systems.
