TDS broadband upgrade construction starts in Amelia County, Virginia

Improvements to more than 3,000 households possible with FCC funding

TDS Telecom (TDS®) has started construction on network upgrades in rural Amelia County, Virginia.

More than 3,000 households will receive upgraded broadband services. The majority of these customers will receive broadband speeds of 25Mbps download and 3 Mbps upload (25/3), with some customers receiving higher speeds.

“We are very pleased with the start of this project,” said Drew Petersen, senior vice president of corporate affairs at TDS. “Our customers are the true beneficiaries of our work, which will ensure better, faster and more reliable internet service in these hard to reach areas.”

Most of the construction will take place throughout 2019, with some work being done in 2020. Due to variables, including weather, a completion date is not available.

More than 60 miles of fiber will be installed. The project also includes upgrading or adding nearly 40 Digital Service Areas and adding about 15 nodes.  Customers who want to know if their location is part of the upgrade, can input their address at: https://tdstelecom.com/networkupgrades.html

TDS is in the process of expanding broadband to more than 5,200 locations throughout the state of Virginia thanks to funding from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).  The FCC allocated nearly $2.3 million a year for the next 10 years to reach residents in some of the hardest to serve areas in Virginia.
