Wind Lake, Wis. residents: broadband service now available

TDS® announces the ARRA broadband stimulus project is now available to first homes in the area; more residents in Wind Lake and Waterford will gain access to stimulus-funded Internet service throughout the summer months.

TDS Telecommunications Corp. (TDS®) announces its American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) stimulus-funded broadband Internet project near Wind Lake is now accessible to some residents living in the area. The project, which also includes expanding high-speed Internet service to areas around Waterford, will be available this summer.

“I’m proud to announce we’ve completed part of the stimulus-funded project and that more people now have access to high-speed Internet service,” says Troy Krantz, manager of Project Implement at TDS. “We expect a majority of households in the impacted areas will gain access to our service by the end of July.”

Construction on the stimulus-funded project, around Wind Lake and Waterford, will continue for the next few months. TDS expects to complete the project by year-end.

Nearly 13 miles of fiber optics cabling was installed and three cabinets (which protect the advanced network electronics) were placed throughout TDS’ Southeast Telephone Co. of Wisconsin, LLC to provide high-speed Internet access to more residents. TDS will let customers when the service is accessible.

TDS is receiving funding for 44 projects, including this one, from the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Rural Utilities Service (RUS) as part of the ARRA. This is the second project that TDS is now offering expanded broadband service to residents; the first was in and around Chatham, Mich.

Nationwide, more than 93 percent of TDS customers already have access to high-speed Internet service. TDS is intent on providing as many remaining customers with broadband connectivity as possible. According to TDS, federal stimulus funds are helping to close the gap and deliver Internet connectivity to many more customers.
