TDS receives Wisconsin broadband funds for areas around Monticello, New Glarus
TDS will leverage grant funds to improve high-speed internet service projects totaling $1.7M.
During today’s Public Service Commission of Wisconsin (PSCW) meeting, the Commission awarded Fiscal Year 2018 Broadband Expansion Grants to 46 applicants. As part of the announcement, TDS Telecom (TDS®) will receive funding to expand broadband service in Wisconsin — in areas surrounding New Glarus and Monticello.
The following statement can be attributed to Jean Pauk, State Government Affairs Manager at TDS Telecom:
“We are pleased the PSCW approved our applications to improve broadband service in areas around New Glarus and Monticello. Our customers will be the true beneficiary of these grants. Once complete, customers will have access to better, faster and more reliable internet service.
“As part of the PSCW’s announcement, TDS will receive half of the nearly $1.7M needed to build out service in parts of New Glarus and Monticello. Through this 50/50 grant, TDS will receive about $844,800 to deliver internet speeds, up to 25 Mbps, to more than 1,100 unserved households.
“We look forward to getting started on these projects. Before we can start, though, we await the PSCW’s official notification. Once received, we will need to review it before we can formally accept the grant. We expect to break ground on the projects yet this year, in order to complete them within two years, as required.”
