TDS starts construction on another fiber network expansion

Fitchburg, Wisconsin project will bring up to 8Gig speeds

TDS Telecommunications LLC (TDS®) has broken ground on its major fiber network expansion in Fitchburg. The move comes a month after the company announced it had reached a memorandum of understanding with the city.

“We know there’s a real hunger for faster, reliable internet connections in Fitchburg and we’re thrilled to get started on this project,” said TDS Senior Vice President of Corporate Affairs Drew Petersen. “Our fiber network will deliver super-fast internet, up to 8Gig speeds, plus residents will gain a new competitive choice for TV and phone service from a local provider.”

TDS’ build will multiply the size of the company’s existing Fitchburg footprint by eight times. The Madison-headquartered company first brought fiber connections to Fitchburg in early 2016. Construction on this expansion will include accessing utility easement areas so contractors can install conduit and fiber cable. The network will launch in phases, becoming available to customers as sections of the network are finished.

Addresses included in the new fiber footprint can choose from a range of symmetrical internet speeds up to 8Gig, and businesses gain dedicated connections up to 10Gig backed by a service level agreement. Both residential and commercial customers can choose the company’s TV product, TDS TV+, as well as phone service.

In addition to standard services, TDS also offers a low-cost product called TDS Connect for qualifying Affordable Connectivity Program participants. TDS Connect includes 200/200Mbps speeds and the monthly cost is fully covered by the ACP benefit.

Across the Badger State, TDS is investing nearly $1 billion to grow its fiber network footprint and deliver high-speed connections. The company is currently building networks in Janesville, Whitewater, Brookfield, Onalaska, Eau Claire, Chippewa Falls, and Marshfield. Beyond Wisconsin, TDS is also bringing fiber networks to communities in Idaho, New Mexico, North Carolina, and Washington.
