TDS starts connecting first customers to its Altoona, Wisconsin fiber network
TDS Telecommunications LLC (TDS®) has started installations of up to 8Gig internet, TV, and phone service to the first customers in Altoona, Wisconsin. The launch of service comes only four months after TDS broke ground on the project. The Madison-headquartered company expanded into the Chippewa Valley last year and has launched fiber services to more than 10,000 addresses across Eau Claire, Chippewa Falls, and Altoona to date.
“We’ve seen tremendous enthusiasm for our fiber service and are delighted to now serve the first customers in Altoona,” said Andrew Petersen, senior vice president of Corporate Affairs at TDS.
TDS announced its expansion into Altoona in April of 2022 and signed a memorandum of understanding with the community in January of this year. The company started construction on the fiber-to-the-home project in April and plans to reach more than 4,000 Altoona addresses with its services.
With the first section of the network now operational, services will continue to become available as segments of the project are completed.
TDS is a new provider in Altoona, bringing residential internet speeds of up to 8Gig as well as its TV product, TDS TV®+, and phone service. Businesses can choose multi-gig speeds without a service level agreement or opt for a 10Gig dedicated connection. TDS also offers TV and managedIP, a VoIP phone solution for businesses.
Beyond the standard service lineup, TDS also offers a low-cost product for Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) participants. Called TDS Connect, it includes up to 200Mbps/200Mbps symmetrical speeds at a cost that is fully covered by the monthly ACP benefit.
The company recently revealed it is investing about a billion dollars to expand its fiber network footprint across Wisconsin. TDS has customers in 32 states and has been serving customers for more than 50 years.
