TDS fiber build now underway in Altoona, Wisconsin
Project will deliver up to 8Gig speeds to more than 4,000 area addresses
TDS Telecommunications LLC (TDS®) has broken ground on its fiber-to-the-home network project in Altoona, Wisconsin. The milestone comes only months after the Madison-headquartered company signed a Memorandum of Understanding agreement with the city. The build will reach 4,000+ addresses and deliver up to 8Gig symmetrical internet for homes, 10Gig dedicated connections for businesses, plus TV and phone service.
“Kicking off construction means Altoona is that much closer to getting reliable, super-fast internet speeds,” says Drew Petersen, senior vice president of Corporate Affairs for TDS. “Residents, schools, businesses, public agencies—everyone will benefit from this state-of-the-art infrastructure, and we’re excited to have this project underway.”
Contractors started work last week and construction activity includes burying conduit and cable in public easement areas, as well as installing fiber connections to locations included in the build footprint. Fiber services will launch to customers gradually as areas of the network are completed. TDS expects to connect the first customers before the end of the year.
TDS has already started customer installations on its Eau Claire and Onalaska, Wis. fiber projects, and broke ground on its Tomah, Wis. network at the end of 2022. The company has become a major player in fiber optic deployment across the state, investing nearly a billion dollars in fiber network expansion in the Badger State.
TDS’ fiber internet service offers equal upload and download speeds and multi-gig service options up to 8Gig. TDS TV®+, the company’s full-featured TV product, integrates with popular streaming services and offers local and national networks, cloud DVR options, and the ability to start shows over. TDS is also a participant in the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP). Qualified ACP customers can receive speeds up to 200Mbps at no cost with the company’s TDS Connect product.
TDS has customers in 32 states and been doing business in the state for 54 years.
