TDS celebrates start of construction on fiber grant project in Necedah, Wis.
More than 800 locations will receive up to 8Gig speeds thanks in part to Wisconsin Access Grant
TDS Telecommunications LLC (TDS®) has kicked off construction on its fiber build in Necedah, Wis. and invited community leaders to celebrate the important milestone at a ceremonial groundbreaking at Old Mill Park. TDS was awarded a $1.08 million grant in late 2021 by the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin to deliver faster speeds to the area. At the ceremony, TDS Director of External Affairs & Communications Kit Beyer was joined by village leadership, representatives from company’s construction partner, and chamber members. As part of the celebration, TDS also presented a check for $500 to the Necedah Food Bank.
“We are excited to get construction started and bring fiber-fast speeds to Necedah,” said Beyer. “We know fast, reliable, and affordable internet is essential for business, education and entertainment.”
TDS was awarded a Wisconsin Broadband Access Grant to help fund fiber-optic connections in October of 2021. TDS’ application specified it would deliver up to 1Gig symmetrical internet, but now plans to offer up to 8Gig speeds. According to the grant guidelines, the project be completed by December 31, 2024.
Construction began on the project late last month. Build activity includes accessing public utility easement areas and burying conduit and fiber optic cable. TDS services will launch to customers in phases as sections of the network are completed.
“Fiber-optics truly deliver the best online experience possible,” says Beyer. “It is the technology communities everywhere are looking for because it offers the speed and the bandwidth you want at home and for your business.”
When complete, the 805 area addresses included in the project footprint will gain access to multi-gig symmetrical internet. Residents can opt for a range of speeds up to 8Gig, and businesses will gain 10Gig dedicated connections with a service level agreement. TDS also offers a low-cost product for qualifying Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) participants. TDS Connect includes 200Mbps/200Mbps speeds at a price that is fully covered by the monthly ACP benefit.
TDS, headquartered in Madison, is rapidly expanding its fiber footprint in the Badger State with active projects in Marshfield, Eau Claire, Chippewa Falls, as well as Onalaska, Sparta, West Salem, Rockland, and Tomah. TDS has already completed fiber projects in Stevens Point, as well as Wausau, Weston, and Kronenwetter.
