TDS Telecom Surpasses 1 Million Fiber Addresses
Milestone cements company as a national fiber leader
TDS Telecommunications LLC (TDS Telecom) today announced a major milestone: the company has officially exceeded 1 million fiber passings, marking a pivotal moment in its transformation into a fiber-first broadband provider.
“This is more than a number, it is a reflection of the company’s drive to create a better world through reliable fiber connections,” said TDS Telecom President and CEO Ken Dixon. “Crossing the one-million mark means our company is in an exclusive club of premier fiber providers that are creating the future today.”
The achievement comes about six months after the company raised its long-term fiber target to 1.8 million addresses with 95% of the footprint having speeds of at least 1 Gig. TDS Telecom is targeting to deliver approximately 150,000 marketable fiber service addresses in 2025.
TDS Telecom operates in 31 states with active fiber expansion projects in nearly 100 communities nationwide. The fiber growth has been powered by a combination of private investment and participation in the federal Enhanced Alternative Connect America Cost Model (E-ACAM) program. The new fiber addresses span across more than two dozen states with the larger fiber expansion projects currently happening in the Pacific Northwest and the company’s home state of Wisconsin.
Network construction has been done through many construction partners and TDS’ Telecom’s growing Internal Construction crews, which will deliver more than a third of the new fiber addresses constructed by TDS Telecom this year.
“Our Internal Construction crews are currently operating in six of our most active expansion states and they have been doing fantastic work,” said Dixon. “We have found it to be a cost-effective and high-quality way to rapidly add fiber locations in areas that need and want fiber connectivity.”
All TDS fiber internet products are symmetrical, meaning the upload and download speeds are identical. A variety of speeds are available for residents and businesses up to 8 Gig. With TDS fiber, businesses have the option of a 10 Gig dedicated connection with a service level agreement. TDS Telecom offers a low-cost product called TDS Connect for qualifying customers.
“We’re not just building a network—we’re building a future,” said Dixon. “Fiber internet is the foundation for everything from smart homes to remote work to next-generation business services. And we’re just getting started.”
TDS Telecom remains on track to reach 1.8 million marketable fiber addresses.
