TDS Telecom partners with first fiber internet search service for real estate

Appleton, Wis. – TDS Telecommunications LLC (TDS®) has partnered with Fiber Homes, the nation’s first fiber internet search service, to give people looking to buy or rent a home in TDS’ local service area a convenient way to determine the quality of internet available at any given address.

TDS has certified over 80,000 fiber serviceable addresses with Fiber Homes in northeastern Wisconsin, with more areas planned to be added to the internet search service. The Madison-based company joins over 150 other fiber providers from around the country in Fiber Homes’ database of over 7 million certified fiber addresses from both independent and national providers. The database is updated in real time, ensuring that when new homes are connected to a fiber network, consumers consulting FiberHomes.com are the first to know.

“TDS is working tirelessly to bring fiber broadband to more homes and businesses in northeastern Wisconsin and throughout the country. We’re pleased to partner with Fiber Homes to make it easy for people to access information on fiber availability in their neighborhoods,” said Drew Petersen, TDS Senior Vice President of Corporate Affairs.

“Reliable broadband internet is no longer optional for homebuyers; it’s become a basic requirement for anyone wanting to fully participate in the modern economy. Our goal with Fiber Homes is to make sure that anyone looking to buy or rent a home has access to this crucial information,” said Robert Gilbert, CEO of Fiber Homes.

In today’s world, people are more often working from home, getting medical care, taking online courses, and of course getting entertainment through high-definition streaming services. As a result, fiber broadband internet services – known as the “gold standard” of internet connections – that provide for these capabilities have become as critical to consumers as connections to gas, electricity, and water supplies.

According to BroadbandNow, just over half of households in the United States had access to fiber internet at the end of 2023, which still leaves a large percentage of homes managing their internet needs with cable or DSL.

TDS’ fiber network offers speeds up to 8 Gig – a robust connection well suited for households with large, shared internet needs. Special 10 Gig dedicated connections are available for businesses.

A boon for real estate agents

Through Fiber Homes Pro, Fiber Homes offers real estate agents services that deliver a competitive edge. Listing agents get access to materials for marketing the home as a connected “fiber home,” while buyer's agents get access to products and pricing from the provider for that house, as well as exclusive new mover promos they can pass to their clients.

Additionally, Fiber Homes is actively working with MLSs around the country to add this crucial information to the property listings.

Currently, over 7 million addresses in a total of 45 states are in the database with thousands of new addresses being added each day. Over 150 providers around the country are currently contributing to the database and more will follow soon.

About Fiber Homes: Fiber Homes is on a mission to make fiber internet availability information accessible for real estate agents and the general public. The Fiber Homes platform includes a portal for real estate agents, MLS integrations, and more. By making this information readily available, Fiber Homes will help people find homes and communities with the internet they need to work, learn, and stream from home.
