TDS launches lightning-fast fiber-optic internet in Bangor & Rockland, Wisconsin
The two communities also gain new TV and voice provider choice
TDS Telecommunications LLC (TDS®) has connected the first customers to its fiber networks in both Bangor and Rockland, Wisconsin. The milestone signifies a big change in the digital landscape in these communities, with residents gaining up to 8 Gig symmetrical internet for the first time, plus the fiber expansion brings a new provider option for TV and phone service.
“It’s officially a new era for Bangor and Rockland,” says Andrew Petersen, senior vice president of Corporate Affairs at TDS. “The high-quality, fast connections will enhance the quality of life for residents and means these communities have the infrastructure to support today’s business and future innovation.”
A subsidiary of TDS, TDS Metrocom LLC, started construction on the project last fall. In addition to super-fast connections for homes, businesses included in the project footprint will access the same speeds, as well as up to 10Gig dedicated connections. With the first areas powered up, the all-fiber network will continue to become available to customers as sections of the project are finished. Funded entirely by TDS, nearly 1,000 addresses will be included in the build when it is complete.
TDS’ fiber connections are all symmetrical, meaning upload and download speeds are identical. Options begin at 300 Mbps and go up to 8 Gig. For Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) participants, TDS also offers a product called TDS Connect that includes up to 200 Mbps/200 Mbps speeds at a price fully covered by the monthly ACP benefit.
“We designed TDS Connect to deliver the same reliable, fast service to those leveraging the ACP program,” says Petersen. “This product and this program are helping to close the digital divide and we encourage residents to see whether they qualify.”
Beyond high-speed data services, TDS also offers phone packages and a feature-rich TV service called TDS TV®+. The product includes local channels, sports content, and national networks, TDS TV+ also integrates with popular streaming services, and offers On Demand and TV Everywhere content. Services are available alone and bundled.
In the Coulee Region, TDS is also building fiber networks in Onalaska, West Salem, and Tomah. TDS is investing nearly half a billion dollars on fiber expansion in Wisconsin.
