TDS Telecom honors St. Marys associate as Volunteer of the Quarter

TDS Telecommunications LLC (TDS®) is proud to recognize John Matrazzo, associate manager of Field Services in St. Marys, as its latest Volunteer of the Quarter.

A veteran of the telecom industry, Matrazzo joined TDS after moving to St. Marys in 2020. He was drawn to the company by its supportive culture and professional growth opportunities, but it wasn’t until he became involved with his local church that he discovered TDS’ deep commitment to community volunteerism.

“For me, volunteering isn’t about giving time—it’s about helping kids recognize their own value and potential,” Matrazzo said. “I’ve seen how love and support can completely change someone’s perspective on life. If I can help even one kid realize they matter and their future isn’t defined by their past, then it’s more than worth the effort.”

Matrazzo helps his church with Information Technology needs, maintaining the property, and leading youth programs. Each Wednesday, he and his wife open their home to a youth group of 40-50 kids, and every Sunday, he teaches Sunday School to kids from third to fifth grade.

In 2024, Matrazzo’s passion for working with children led him to the Royal Family KIDS Camp, a program dedicated to providing a week-long camp experience for foster children coming from challenging backgrounds. At the camp, Matrazzo provided companionship and support to children facing significant challenges in their lives—an experience that has influenced his own perspective.

“Anytime I’m having a bad day, I think back to those kids and their resilience,” he said. “It’s given me patience, perspective, and a greater appreciation for what I have.”

Matrazzo’s unwavering commitment to service exemplifies TDS Telecom’s mission to support local communities. Through TDS’ “Be Good Citizens” program, qualified associates receive 16 paid volunteer hours each year. Matrazzo’s story is a testament to the profound impact one person can have—one child at a time.

Matrazzo’s supervisor, TDS Manager of Field Services Charles Broome, nominated Matrazzo for Volunteer of the Quarter.

“John’s genuine selflessness and dedication to being a role model for children in need is truly inspiring,” said Broome. “He devotes his personal time to mentorship and inspires hope. I’m so proud to have John on my team and recognize him as Volunteer of the Quarter!”
