TDS Fiber Opens its first Retail Store in Montana

TDS Telecommunications LLC (TDS®) opened its first Montana retail store in Billings. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Tuesday afternoon where TDS also presented Big Sky Economic Development Authority with a $3,000 donation.

“We’re thrilled to be here today to open our first retail store in the state of Montana,” said Drew Petersen, Senior Vice President of Corporate Affairs at TDS. “I’d like to thank Billings Mayor Bill Cole, the city leaders, the Billings Chamber of Commerce, and Big Sky Economic Development Authority for their amazing hospitality. We appreciate their cooperation throughout this multi-million dollar project.”

Construction on the state-of-the-art TDS Fiber network started earlier this year and TDS has already installed about 500 customers in Billings, said Petersen. “TDS will eventually connect more homes and businesses with internet speeds up to 8 Gig!”

Billings Mayor Bill Cole was extremely grateful for TDS coming to town and to have the competition of a national provider of internet services. “Everybody knows how important their internet connection is and so competition is important to raise the level of service for everybody,” said Cole. “We are very happy to have TDS in Billings.”

TDS presented a $3,000 check to Patrick Klugman, the Director of Development for Big Sky Economic Development Authority. The money will be used to help support entrepreneurial start-up companies in Yellowstone County, said Klugman. “We say thank you so much for the contribution and we are looking forward to continued partnerships with TDS.”

The Altana Federal Credit Union also was there with its Ice Cream Treat Van.

TDS is working with CEC Facilities Group, Irving, Texas, to construct the network.  Construction started less than a year ago. TDS has hired 21 associates in Billings; new positions are now posted on the TDS website.

Billings is the first city in Montana to receive a fiber optic network. Montana is the 32nd state TDS offers its services.
