TDS building fiber networks in Onalaska and Sparta, Wisconsin
About 12K addresses across both communities to get up to 2Gig symmetrical internet
TDS Telecommunications LLC (TDS®) is announcing plans to build fiber-to-the-home networks in both Onalaska and Sparta, Wisconsin. The fiber technology will deliver upload and download speeds of up 2Gig internet, TV, and phone to residents, along with a full suite of service options for businesses. Construction is expected to start in spring of 2022, ultimately connecting nearly 12,000 addresses across Onalaska and Sparta. The networks will become available to residents gradually as work is completed.
“We are pleased TDS will be offering all the residents of Onalaska an option for a fully fiber network to their homes, and look forward to the full fiber buildout being complete,” said Eric Rindfleisch, Onalaska City Administrator. “Options such as this will keep Onalaska as the premier regional location to live and work and maintain our high standard of living.”
“Fiber networks are in demand because they offer the connection speeds and reliability consumers are looking for,” said Andrew Petersen, Senior Vice President of Corporate Affairs at TDS. “We’re excited to bring this technology to Onalaska and Sparta and be part the future of these growing communities.”
TDS, a 53-year-old company headquartered in Madison, has been growing its fiber footprint rapidly in Wisconsin. The company recently announced plans to build a fiber network in the Green Bay metropolitan area, including Green Bay, Ashwaubenon, Bellevue, Suamico, Howard, and Hobart. This fall, the company also launched its newest network in Wisconsin’s Fox Cities. TDS fiber projects in both Wausau and Stevens Point are nearing completion.
Residents in the build areas can choose a range of internet speeds up to 2 Gigabit (2,000Mbps), as well as TDS TV®+ and phone services. All residential TDS fiber internet products are symmetrical, meaning the internet download and upload speeds are identical. Businesses can select up to 10G dedicated connections, TDS TV+, and TDS’ hosted VoIP communications solution, managed IP.
