TDS fiber network project in Niota, Tennessee to be completed in the coming weeks
Up to 8 Gig speeds available thanks to fiber-to-the-home network upgrade
TDS Telecommunications LLC (TDS®) has launched fiber internet service of up to 8 Gig in Niota, Tenn. With fiber-fast internet available to half of the customers in the project area now, the final addresses are expected to gain access in January. The speeds are the result of a TDS fiber-to-the-home project that will ultimately connect about 1,000 addresses to the super-fast connections. Residents can choose up to 8 Gig speeds and businesses can get up to 10 Gig connections with a service level agreement. Phone and fiber internet bundles are also available.
“Fiber-optic infrastructure is transformative for both communities and individuals because of the speed and the reliability it delivers,” says TDS Senior Vice President of Corporate Affairs Andrew Petersen. “We’re thrilled to have customers experiencing the difference fiber makes for all their online activities at work, school, and home.”
TDS kicked off construction on the project earlier this year and fiber service launched to the first customers in October. The network upgrade has included both hanging cable on poles and burying fiber conduit in utility easement areas.
All TDS internet speeds over fiber are symmetrical, including the company’s low-cost offering for Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) participants. Called TDS Connect, the product includes up to 200Mbps/200Mbps speeds at a cost that is fully covered by the monthly ACP benefit.
“We hope residents will check to see if they qualify for this assistance program,” says Petersen. “The ACP benefit can make a real difference and help people stay connected to internet services.”
TDS recently completed a fiber project in Englewood, bringing up to 8 Gig speeds to about 1,200 addresses. TDS has served customers in Niota, Englewood, Riceville, Vonore, and Tellico for 38 years.
