TDS to build fiber network in McFarland

Wisconsin residents to get Gigabit speeds, TDS TV and business services.

TDS Telecommunications LLC (TDS Telecom/TDS®) announces plans to expand its serving area and construct a new fiber optic broadband network in the village of McFarland, Wisconsin.

TDS is currently engineering the network with plans to immediately begin construction of the new fiber optic network. Once the network is complete, TDS plans to launch up to 1 Gigabit internet service along with TDS TV and phone service for residents in the village of McFarland this fall. For businesses, TDS will provide up to 1 Gigabit internet, dedicated fiber connections, and TDS managedIP, a hosted VoIP communications solution.

“To deliver these new, advanced services, TDS will invest significant private capital and hire local contractors to assist us in reaching our aggressive launch dates,” states Jim Butman, president and CEO of TDS Telecom. “To help foster business growth and attract more economic development projects to the area, we are also committed to building fiber optic network services to future business developments.”

McFarland is a rapidly growing community near Madison, Wisconsin. Located on Highway 51, along the east shore of Lake Waubesa, McFarland has had steady growth due to its convenient location, local amenities, and many family friendly neighborhoods. The population, last measured as part of the 2010 census at 7,808, is now estimated at more than 8,200.

“The Village Board for years has specifically targeted the development of a fiber optic network in the community as one of its key objectives,” states McFarland Village Administrator Matt Schuenke. “We finally have that opportunity at our doorstep with TDS as a partner.”

“Our efforts in Sun Prairie, and now McFarland, demonstrate TDS’ commitment to providing advanced technology and choice to more area residents and businesses in Dane County,” added Butman. “We are excited to partner with the village of McFarland and stand ready to invest in becoming a strong community partner.”
