TDS Donates to The Center for Black Excellence and Culture

MADISON, Wisconsin -- TDS Telecommunications LLC (TDS®) is pleased to announce a donation of $150,000 for the construction of The Center for Black Excellence and Culture in Madison, Wisconsin. Company leaders would also like to congratulate the organization for reaching a major fundraising milestone.

“We are proud to be part of this historic and transformational cultural project in Wisconsin’s capital city,” said TDS Telecom President and CEO Jim Butman.

The Center for Black Excellence and Culture (The Center) is a multimillion-dollar initiative to build a 65,000-square foot destination to cultivate and celebrate Black culture, honor Black achievement, and showcase Black excellence. The building will be located on six acres on the 600 block of West Badger Road on Madison’s southside.

“TDS is committed to giving back to the communities we serve, and this donation is our way to support and celebrate the Black community in the greater Dane County area,” said Butman.

“TDS’ generous gift could not come at a more important moment in this community-wide effort. We’re thrilled to lock arms as we construct a permanent home for opportunity, belonging, and advancement for the Black community in Madison and beyond. We are grateful for TDS and other corporate leaders who are joining this effort and working to create a more equitable Madison region,” Dr. Alex Gee, The Center’s CEO and Founder.

With the TDS gift and recent contributions from corporate, foundation, and philanthropic leaders, The Center raised over $20M of a $36M campaign to make The Center a reality.

The Center looks to open its doors in 2023. More details and ways to get involved can be found at TheBlackCenter.org.
