TDS associate starts Rotary Club in Washington, Utah
Tyler Hunsaker, a senior marketing advisor for TDS Telecom (TDS®), launched the first-ever Rotary Club last week in Washington, Utah.
About 55 people attended the Nov. 17th charter launch celebration where Tyler was named chair of the local club. The Washington City Rotary Club was officially chartered on Oct. 17, 2021.
Since the club was chartered the group has grown to about 35 members and Tyler hopes to grow the organization to 60 members by mid-2022.
At this time, Tyler said the Washington City Rotary plans to hold four major events a year and will focus on literacy and implementing neighborhood libraries. “By installing neighborhood libraries, we hope to improve access to books 24/7, which we believe will encourage good reading habits for all ages.”
Tyler said he would like to see “service to others” as the backbone of the Washington City Rotary.
Rotary brings in speakers to discuss and educate the members about local issues. Tyler said he is a firm believer in the statement: “If learning is beneath you, then leadership is beyond you.”
The Washington City Rotary Club meets the first and third Monday of each month at the Black Bear Diner, 865 N. Hoodoo Way, Washington, and then the second and fourth Monday of each month at Zions Bank, 865 W. Telegraph St., Washington.
With a population of about 28,000, Washington is the second largest city in Washington County. In the last 20 years, there have been three previous attempts to start a Washington City Rotary. Tyler said he expects this one will “stick.” Work to start the new Rotary Club began in June 2021.
“TDS is extremely proud of the dedication Tyler has shown on his way to this achievement,” said TDS’ Senior Vice President of Corporate Communications Drew Petersen. “It’s inspiring to see Tyler’s persistence to serve others in the community where he lives.”
TDS and its associates are committed to giving back to the communities it serves. Being a local community partner is central to TDS’ mission and values.
