Purple Heart recipient to deliver first pitch at TDS-sponsored Spokane Indians baseball game

SPOKANE, Wash. (Aug. 16, 2021) – TDS Telecommunications would like to invite the media and public to help honor a local military hero at an upcoming Spokane Indians baseball game. The telecommunications company has asked Spokane native and Purple Heart recipient Seth Bendewald to throw out the ceremonial first pitch before the game on Thursday, August 19, at Avista Stadium. The match-up between the Indians and the Hillsboro Hops is sponsored by TDS.

Bendewald, 29, served as a U.S. Army infantryman from 2010-2015. From 2011-12, he was deployed in Afghanistan, where he earned a Purple Heart after injuries sustained in an explosion.

“Our veterans are the finest among us. We are proud to utilize this event to shine a spotlight not only on Seth, but all those who have heroically served our country,” TDS Telecom CEO Jim Butman said.

Bendewald was born and raised in Spokane before joining the U.S. Army just two weeks after graduating high school. After completing his military service, he moved back to Spokane, where he currently resides with his wife and two children.

Bendewald works as a member service representative at Spokane Teachers Credit Union and is a licensed real estate agent.

“I really appreciate the opportunity that TDS has given me to throw out the first pitch. It feels good to be honored for my service and I’m grateful that this platform was used to honor service men and women of our beautiful country,” Bendewald said.

Thursday’s Indians game is “Dollars In Your Dog Night” sponsored by TDS, which features a promotion in which fans can buy a hot dog and look inside the wrapper for a chance to win cash. A total of $2,000 and a Sony soundbar will be available to win. Additionally, a TDS Telecom booth will give away a $100 gift card to the Indians team store. Anyone who registers for service with TDS will receive $10 in “Indians bucks.”
