Multi-gig internet speeds up to 8 Gig now available in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin
TDS upgrade project boosts top available speed up to 8 Gig in second Dane County community
TDS Telecommunications LLC (TDS®) has boosted top internet speeds in Sun Prairie eightfold. Speeds up to 8 Gig are now available to both residents and businesses thanks a TDS fiber network upgrade. The new, faster speeds, come just months after TDS announced it is delivering the fastest consumer speeds in Dane County after launching 8 Gig speeds in Stoughton late last year. Additional community upgrades will be forthcoming to the area.
“This project shows the power of a fiber-to-the-home network because we could upgrade equipment and increase speeds 800% without any disruption to the community,” says TDS Senior Vice President of Corporate Affairs Drew Petersen. “This proactive investment in the Sun Prairie network will ensure our fiber infrastructure is ready to handle future demands and technology.”
TDS finalized the acquisition of Sun Prairie Utilities fiber assets in 2017 and immediately began expanding the fiber footprint in the community. TDS invested about $15 million to add more than 170 miles of fiber, completing the project in 2018.
TDS began rolling out up to 8 Gig speeds in late 2022 in its fiber footprint and has been increasing availability over time. Along with super-fast multi-gig options, the Madison-headquartered company will also continue to offer 1 Gig in Sun Prairie, as well as a range of other symmetrical internet choices along with TV and phone service.
Like all of TDS’ fiber internet connections, the up to 8 Gig product is symmetrical with equal upload and download speeds. It is available now to both residents and businesses—without the need for a dedicated connection.
The bandwidth included in the 8 Gig service means files of any size download or upload nearly instantaneously. This makes it an ideal product for commercial customers as well as households with large, shared internet needs—including those who utilize photo or video editing software, stream high-definition content, or game online.
TDS is actively building fiber networks in the Fox Valley, Onalaska, Eau Claire, Janesville, Evansville, and Milton.
