Fitchburg, Wis. and TDS finalize fiber expansion Memorandum of Understanding

TDS leadership thanks city leadership for their support

TDS Telecommunication LLC (TDS®) will soon start a new fiber network expansion project in Fitchburg after city leaders approved a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the company this month. The MOU formalizes the terms around TDS’ fiber-to-the-home network build that will grow the company’s existing fiber footprint in the community eight-fold.

“As a Madison-headquartered company for 54 years, we were proud to be the first company to bring a fiber network to Fitchburg in 2016,” said SVP of Corporate Affairs Drew Petersen. “Since then, demand for reliable, fast connections has only grown and so we’re grateful to have the support of Fitchburg city leadership on this high-tech infrastructure project.”

TDS first announced its intention to expand its fiber network in Fitchburg last fall. The company plans to connect about 8,000 addresses to its latest fiber technology that offers a range of symmetrical internet speeds up to 8Gig to residents and businesses. Commercial customers can also choose 10Gig dedicated connections with a service level agreement. All addresses included in the build area can bundle services with the company’s full-featured TV product, TDS TV®+, and phone services.

The project is being funded entirely by TDS and will include burying conduit and fiber in residential and commercial easement areas. Work will be completed in phases, making the network available to customers gradually as the build progresses.

TDS has become a leader in fiber-optic deployment in the U.S. and the state. The company is actively building in Whitewater, Brookfield, Onalaska, Eau Claire, and Chippewa Falls and announced projects in Altoona, Watertown, Fort Atkinson, Dodgeville, and Mineral Point. TDS has been doing business in Wisconsin for 54 years and serves customers in 32 states.
