Fiber-optic grant project delivers up to 8 Gig internet to first customers in Monroe County, Tennessee
Super high-speed all-fiber internet connections are now available in Monroe County, Tennessee, thanks to a recently launched TDS Telecommunications LLC (TDS®) grant project. The network upgrades deliver a range of internet service options up to 8 Gig to the first customers. The top speeds are eight times faster than the company promised in its original proposal.

More than 3,500 addresses will benefit from the state-of-the-art infrastructure when the project is complete. The network upgrade project is funded under a Grant Contract with the State of Tennessee.TDS is contributing almost half the cost for the build, now projected to total nearly $10M.
“This project will bridge the digital divide and deliver world-class speeds to customers in Tellico Plains, Coker Creek, Vonore, and Ball Play,” says Petersen. “We’re proud of this public-private partnership to ensure everyone has access to the digital tools and connectivity they need to succeed.”
With faster speeds now available to the first customers, services will continue to become available as sections of the network upgrades are completed.
TDS fiber products are symmetrical, meaning download and upload speeds are identical. Internet choices start at 300 Mbps with up to 8 Gig available for both residents and businesses. Business customers can choose 10 Gig dedicated connections with a Service Level Agreement. TDS continues to offer a low-cost internet option to qualifying customers called TDS Connect.
