TDS celebrates completion of Appleton fiber network with Fiber Fast Awards

APPLETON, Wisconsin – TDS Telecommunications LLC (TDS®) celebrated the end of major construction activities on its all-fiber internet network in Appleton, Wisconsin. The company officially designated Appleton as a “TDS Fiber-Fast Community” at an event today, Aug. 19, featuring representatives from the City of Appleton, Fox Cities Chamber of Commerce, and Downtown Appleton Inc.

The TDS Fiber-Fast Award certifies the community is home to some of the fastest internet speeds in the world – a huge benefit for current residents and businesses and a signal for others looking for new locations to consider. Approximately 35,000 City of Appleton addresses have access to TDS’ network, which features speeds up to 8 Gigabit.

Since construction began in 2020, TDS crews and contractors have buried over 400 miles of fiber-optic cable. TDS has made a total capital investment in Appleton of more than $80 million. The project is part of TDS’ transformation into a fiber-centric company, with high-speed networks under construction throughout the country.

“This is a major upgrade for the community’s infrastructure that will help enable economic development, business growth, and better connections for school, work, and entertainment,” said Joe Read, TDS Senior Vice President of Network Operations. “As a Wisconsin-based company, we’re proud to make this 100-percent privately-funded investment and continue serving the region for many years to come.”

As part of the Fiber-Fast event, TDS also made a donation to the Fox Cities Salvation Army to help the organization continue helping community members in need.

“With 50 TDS associates in Outagamie County, we have a vested interest in making sure our region succeeds. As we grow our fiber network, we’ll continue supporting great community events and work side-by-side with local nonprofits,” said Pamela Litscher, TDS associate manager of field marketing in Appleton.

TDS continues working to expand its fiber network in other areas of the region including Grand Chute, Neenah, Kaukauna, Manitowoc, Green Bay, Fond du Lac, Kohler, Sheboygan, and Sheboygan Falls. In addition to Appleton, construction has been completed in Little Chute, Kimberly, and Combined Locks.
