Altoona, Wis. is the newest Official TDS Fiber-Fast Community in Eau Claire County
Community leaders and company officials celebrated the completion of TDS all-fiber network with an award presentation
TDS Telecommunications LLC (TDS®) named Altoona, Wisconsin its latest Official Fiber-Fast Community designation at a city council meeting on Thursday, September 11. The award marks the completion of the company’s fiber-optic network project in the area that is now delivering up to 8 Gig internet connections in the community.
"Now Altoona knows first-hand why fiber internet is a game-changer,” said TDS Senior Vice President of Corporate Affairs Drew Petersen. “Completing this fiber build is an exciting milestone, bringing the future of connectivity to Altoona and opening up endless possibilities for innovation and growth.”
TDS, headquartered in Madison, announced that Altoona and Chippewa Falls would be part of its Eau Claire County fiber expansion in April 2022. Construction started a year later, with the first customers enjoying symmetrical fiber internet speeds by August of 2023. In total, the company has connected nearly 4,500 Altoona homes and businesses to its state-of-the-art fiber-to-the-home network. In February, the company was the inaugural winner of the Best Internet Provider award in Volume One’s Best of Chippewa Valley contest.
