Overview of Your Rights as a California Resident

The CPRA provides California residents with specific rights regarding Personal Information as defined by the CPRA (“CPRA-PI”). California residents include current or former customers, associates, contractors, or those with other business relationships with TDS. In addition to having information about Personal Information collected and the purposes for which it will be used (please see our Privacy Policy), California residents have the following six rights:

  • To request access to your CPRA-PI in a portal format (Right to Access);
  • To request the erasure of your CPRA-PI held by TDS (Right to Delete);
  • To request to correct inaccurate CPRA-PI maintained by TDS (Right to Correct);
  • To rrequest TDS limit the use of Sensitive CPRA-PI (Right to Limit Use); and
  • To opt-out of the “sale” (for monetary or other valuable consideration) and “sharing” (for cross-context behavioral advertising) of CPRA-PI by TDS. (Right to Opt-out of Sale and Sharing).
  • To not receive discriminatory treatment by TDS for exercising your rights under the CPRA.

Exercising Your Rights

Right to Access

You have the right to request we disclose certain information about the CPRA-PI collected or maintained about you in the 12 months prior to our receipt of your request (or, upon your request, information about the CPRA-PI that we have collected about you since January 1, 2022 unless doing so would prove impossible or would involve disproportionate effort). Once we receive your request and verify you as an authorized requestor, we may disclose to you some or all of the following:

  • The categories of CPRA-PI we collected about you.
  • The categories of sources for the CPRA-PI we collected about you.
  • Our business or commercial purpose for collecting or selling that CPRA-PI.
  • The categories of third parties with whom we share that CPRA-PI.
  • The specific pieces of CPRA-PI we collected about you.
  • If we sold or disclosed your CPRA-PI for a business purpose, two separate lists disclosing;
    • sales, identifying the CPRA-PI categories that each category of recipient purchased; and
    • disclosures for a business purpose, identifying the CPRA-PI categories that each category of recipient obtained.

If you are a current California resident, you may use our California Privacy Rights Request Form to request access to your CPRA-PI. You may also contact us by calling the TDS Customer Care team at 1-855-220-2592. Telephone requests are accepted M-F from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. CT and Saturday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. CT.

TDS must verify your identity before fulfilling these requests. Please see information below about identity verification. For verified requests, we will provide you with a copy of your CPRA-PI collected and maintained by TDS. If TDS is unable to fulfill your request in its entirety, we will provide an explanation along with a partial response. The request will be fulfilled within 45 days of submission, or an extension notification will be provided.

Right to Delete

Under the CPRA, California residents may request the erasure of their CPRA-PI, subject to certain exceptions. We may deny your deletion request, should the information be necessary for us or our contractors or service providers to:

  • Complete the transaction for which we collected the CPRA PI, provide a good or service that you requested, take actions reasonably anticipated within the context of our ongoing business relationship with you, or otherwise perform our contract with you.
  • Detect security incidents, protect against malicious, deceptive, fraudulent, or illegal activity, or prosecute those responsible for such activities.
  • Debug products to identify and repair errors that impair existing intended functionality.
  • Exercise free speech, ensure the right of another consumer to exercise their free speech rights, or exercise another right provided for by law.
  • Comply with the California Electronic Communications Privacy Act (Cal. Penal Code § 1546 seq.).
  • Engage in public or peer-reviewed scientific, historical, or statistical research in the public interest that adheres to all other applicable ethics and privacy laws, when the information's deletion may likely render impossible or seriously impair the research's achievement, if you previously provided informed consent.
  • Enable solely internal uses that are reasonably aligned with consumer expectations based on your relationship with us.
  • Comply with a legal obligation.
  • Make other internal and lawful uses of that information that are compatible with the context in which you provided it.

Right to Correct

Under the CPRA, California residents may request the correction of inaccurate CPRA-PI maintained by TDS and, if applicable, our Service Providers and Contractors. TDS may choose to delete the information as an alternative to correcting it if that is more efficient and will not negatively impact you.

If you are a current California resident, you may use our California Privacy Rights Request Form to request a correction. You may also contact us by calling TDS' Customer Care team at 1-855-220-2592. Telephone requests are accepted M-F from 7AM to 8PM CT and Saturday 8 AM to 6 PM CT.

TDS must verify your identity before fulfilling these requests. Please see information below about identity verification. If you request that we delete your CPRA-PI and we you’re your request, we will let you know what we did not delete and why.

Right to Limit Use

Under the CPRA, California residents may request that companies limit the use or disclosure of their sensitive CPRA-PI as defined by the CPRA. If you are a current California resident, you may use our California Privacy Rights Request Form to exercise this right. You may also contact us by calling the TDS Customer Care team at 1-855-220-2592. Telephone requests are accepted M-F from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. CT and Saturday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. CT. TDS will verify your identity as necessary to fulfill your request. Please see information below about identity verification. Please note that under certain circumstances, TDS is not required to limit its use of sensitive CPRA-PI. We may deny your request, should the information be necessary for us or our contractors or service providers to:

  • Complete the transaction for which we collected the sensitive CPRA PI, provide a good or service that you requested, take actions reasonably anticipated within the context of our ongoing business relationship with you, or otherwise perform our contract with you.
  • Detect security incidents, protect against malicious, deceptive, fraudulent, or illegal activity, or prosecute those responsible for such activities.
  • To ensure the physical safety of individuals when the sensitive CPRA PI is reasonably necessary and proportionate for this purpose.
  • Comply with a legal obligation.

Right to Opt-out of Sale and Sharing of CPRA-PI

Under the CPRA, California residents may direct TDS not to “sell” (for monetary or other valuable consideration, including to third-party cookie providers) or “share” (for cross-context behavioral advertising) their CPRA-PI to third parties. Third parties under the CPRA does not include trusted business partners who have access to CPRA-PI necessary to support TDS business purposes such assisting TDS to fulfill orders, process payments, and complete audits. These trusted business partners are also known as service providers or contractors, and they are contractually prohibited from using or disclosing CPRA-PI for any purpose other than supporting TDS.

If you are a current California resident, you may use our California Privacy Rights Request Form to opt-out of the sale of your personal information to third parties. You may also contact us by calling the TDS Customer Care team at 1-855-220-2592. Telephone requests are accepted M-F from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. CT and Saturday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. CT. In addition, our use of certain cookies may be a “sale” or “sharing” of CPRA-PI to third-party cookie providers. TDS provides an opportunity to opt-out of Cookies. If you would like to learn more about the types of Cookies we use to improve our Online Services and how to opt-out of Cookies, please refer to the Cookie Preferences below.

We do not and will not sell or share CPRA-PI for valuable consideration if we have actual knowledge that the consumer is less than 16 years of age, unless we receive affirmative authorization (“opt-in”) from either the consumer between 13 and 16 years of age, or the parent or guardian of a consumer less than 13 years of age.

Verification

It is important that TDS verify your identity before fulfilling a request. If you sign-in via My Account before completing your request or supply your PIN when calling TDS, you will be verified. If you are unable to do that, the California Consumer Rights Request form will guide you through the verification process.

TDS does not require you to create an account with us to make a request. However, for our customers with My Account, we recommend using this channel to authenticate your request as it will be the most efficient for you.

Authorized Agent. In addition to those who are acting on your behalf with legal power of attorney or as a conservator, you may designate an agent to submit requests on your behalf. Agents can be a natural person or a business entity that you have given written authorization or power of attorney to exercise your rights in accordance with applicable laws (an “Authorized Agent”). We may request that your Authorized Agent submit proof of identity and proof that they have been authorized to exercise your rights on your behalf. We may deny a request from an Authorized agent to exercise your rights on your behalf if they fail to submit adequate proof of identity or that they have authority to exercise your rights.

Fulfillment Process

TDS will confirm receipt of your request within 10 business days and make an effort to fulfill verified requests within a reasonable time with the target of 45 days for a Right to Access, Right to Delete, and Right to Correct requests and will comply within 15 days for Right to Right to Opt-out of Sale or Right to Limit Use requests. In some cases, we may need additional time to respond to Right to Access, Right to Correct, or Right to Delete requests. Should that occur, TDS will contact you so you know the reason(s) for the delay and when you can expect the request to be fulfilled.

Cookie Preferences

TDS websites and mobile applications use our own cookies and may also use service provider, contractor, or third-party cookies. Through the use of cookies, CPRA-PI may be collected and then shared, disclosed, or transferred to others. If you wish to opt-out of cookies, please see the banner that appears on the bottom of TDS web pages to opt-out. If this banner is not appearing for you, please clear your cache. To do so, please follow the instructions provided by your browser which are usually located within the “Help”, “Tools”, or “Edit” menus. Those requests will take effect immediately and without confirmation or correspondence from TDS. For more information on cookies, please see our Privacy Policy.

Browser Privacy Control Signals. You may also exercise your right to opt-out of the “sale” of your CPRA-PI for monetary or other valuable consideration and “sharing” your CPRA-PI for the purposes of cross-context behavioral advertising by setting the privacy control signal on your browser, if your browser supports it. We currently recognize and support the following privacy signals sent by browsers:

  • Global privacy control (for more information on how to configure your browser to send this signal, please see globalprivacycontrol.org).

When we receive one of these privacy control signals, we will opt you out of any further “sale” or “sharing” of your CPRA-PI when you interact with our website through that browser and on that device.
