TDS Telecom to FCC: Swift action on Tech Transitions Docket is warranted and welcome

Earlier today (July 10, 2015), Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Tom Wheeler provided commentary with insights into the important progress the agency is making on the Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) regarding the technology transition.

The following statements can be attributed to Andrew (Drew) Petersen, vice president of External Affairs and Communications at TDS Telecom:

“TDS has been a strong promoter of competitive choice for broadband and voice services for more than two decades.

“Chairman Wheeler’s discussion today, highlighting the critical importance of maintaining healthy competition in the commercial telecommunications marketplace, is warranted and welcome.

“Striking a balance between technology evolution and regulatory modernization is complex. Chairman Wheeler has developed a courageous blueprint which should benefit businesses seeking choice and telecommunication companies pursuing regulatory certainty with their new IP investments.

“As the technology transition proceeding moves toward decision, TDS—along with many other carriers, trade associations and public interest groups — has urged the commission to scrutinize behavior in this marketplace. Moreover, we have encouraged customers to highlight the benefits of competitive choice for broadband and voice services and share how choice impacts their bottom line. We trust the FCC will value these viewpoints and look forward to the Commission taking action with deliberate speed.”
