TDS® applies for CASF grant to improve Internet service in parts of California
TDS Telecommunications Corp. (TDS®) announces it has submitted applications to the California Public Utilities Commission for two California Advanced Services Fund Infrastructure (CASF) grants to improve high-speed Internet service in parts of the state.
In southeast California, TDS is asking for just over $2 million to help improve Internet service in Winterhaven and surrounding areas of Imperial County including the Quechan Reservation.
In northern California, TDS is asking for just over $1.8 million to help improve Internet service in the Villages of Olinda and IGO, the western part of Anderson, and surrounding areas in Shasta County.
“We know that some of our customers are frustrated with the Internet speeds available to them and ill-timed lags in service,” says Gail Long, State Government Affairs manager at TDS. “We are hopeful CASF will fund our grant thereby helping us improve high-speed Internet service in some of the most remote portions of the communities we serve in southeast California.”
TDS’ grant application in the southeast part of the state covers about 15.7 square miles, including five anchor institutions. In the northern part of the state, TDS’ application covers about 20 square miles, including eight anchor institutions.
In both areas, about 1,900 households will be impacted. Both proposed upgrades include investing in new Ethernet equipment and fiber-optics.
