TDS announces donation to build digital recording studio in Madison
Lussier Community Education Center gets ready to Rock and Roll
Local communications provider, TDS, announced today its commitment to fund a digital music recording studio within the new Lussier Community Education Center (LCEC). The $30,000 donation from TDS provides the funds to fully utilize and make ready a state-of-the-art digital music recording studio.
“The TDS Recording Studio will help youth discover their talents, give them the ability to produce music and learn a lot about an exciting industry,” says Dave Wittwer, president and CEO of TDS in Madison. “Technology in the music industry has really given individuals a voice they didn’t have before. We wanted to help youth in throughout the community get their hands on technology tools and use the Internet in new ways.”
The innovative Lussier Community Education Center, formerly known as the Wexford Ridge Neighborhood Center, offers much more than a name change. The LCEC is strategically situated on the campuses of Jefferson Middle School and Memorial High School, on Gammon Road one block from West Towne Mall.
A pioneering school-city-community partnership, the LCEC offers new opportunities and comprehensive programs that would not otherwise be possible. The LCEC will open the walls between the schools and the community, creating a new kind of environment in which to teach, learn and grow leaders. The goal is to have a community space for people of all generations to come together.
“Youth are naturally at a time in their lives when they are trying to find their voice in the world. Music recording, videography and poetry have become a powerful avenue for engaging youth who have been otherwise alienated from our schools and our community,” states Paul Terranova, executive director of the Lussier Community Education Center. “We believe this new digital music studio will help us connect with many youth in the community.”
TDS employees in the ‘Connecting with our Communities’ committee selected this project based on the needs and success of the current Wexford Ridge Neighborhood Center. “The enthusiasm is contagious,” adds DeAnne Boegli, committee chairperson. “We can’t wait to hear the first sound track.”
