Honoring Minnesota women in the military: WWII to present-day conflicts TDS™ and St. Paul Saints team up for Independence Day celebration

MADISON, Wis. — The St. Paul Saints will honor “Women in the Military,” on Thursday, July 2. Presented by TDS Telecommunications Corp. (TDS™), the event will prove to be a very special and unique evening at Midway Stadium.

Women have been part of the military, serving in conflicts dating back to WWII. They helped defend our freedom on the battlefield—behind the scenes and on the front lines. They helped build battleships, tanks, and fighter planes that established our military might. They served as nurses and doctors, caring for the wounded of every war in which our soldiers have fought. They served in combat on many of the most important battles in our Nation’s history. They haven’t, however, always received the recognition they deserve.

The United States has stood for freedom, not just for the people in our country, but for many around the world. These brave and heroic women have helped in numerous ways to make sure that goal is met. To call them heroes may not be powerful enough. So, just prior to the July 2 game, the Saints and TDS will team up to hold a pre-game ceremony honoring Minnesota women who have served in conflicts dating as far back as WWII and as recent as Iraq and Afghanistan.

In an always moving and awe inspiring moment fans will be treated to a flyover by a squadron of WWII fighter planes in a missing man formation. The aircraft will fly in a V formation with the flight leader at the point and the wingman following his left. The second-element leader follows on the flight leader’s right and his wingman follows on his right.

This is the fifth consecutive season the Saints and TDS have honored the Military during their Independence Day Celebration. Military members and their family will receive free tickets for this historic evening. The Saints have drawn over 9,000 fans for this evening each of the last two seasons. Following the evening’s game fans will be dazzled with the best fireworks show in the Twin Cities Metro Area.

The Saints take on the Lincoln Saltdogs in a 7:05 p.m. contest with gates opening at 6 p.m. Tickets for the evening can be purchased by contacting the Saints box office at 651-644-6659 or visiting saintsbaseball.com.
