Scholarships now available to Wisconsin high school seniors

Scholarship applications are now available to Wisconsin High School seniors interested in applying for a Wisconsin State Telecommunications Foundation (WSTF) scholarship. The one-time $500 and $1,500 scholarships are made possible by local telecoms including TDS Telecom.

Applications are available from high school guidance counselors and online at the WSTF web site. To be considered for a one-time $500 or $1,500 scholarship, applications must be postmarked by Feb. 3, 2015.

“Supporting high school seniors as they pursue a college degree is very important to us at TDS Telecom,” says Jean Pauk, State Government Affairs manager at TDS. “We are pleased to once again be partnering with the WSTF to make this scholarship available, to help make college just a little more affordable for the young people in the communities we serve."

TDS joins other incumbent telephone companies and cooperatives across the state to offer the WSTF scholarships. In 2014, the Foundation awarded more than $50,000 to 39 students statewide, including:
$1,500 scholarships to 30 graduating high school students
$1,500 Bruce Reuber Memorial Scholarship
$750 scholarships to five first-year students attending Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College's Electronics Telecommunications Program
$500 scholarships to three technical college students

In March, the WSTF panel will review all submitted applications. Finalists will be selected based on grades, academic achievements, and extra-curricular activities. Scholarships will be presented, starting in May, during the recipient’s high school graduation ceremony or awards night programs.

Since 1966, the Foundation has awarded more than $1.38 million in scholarships to nearly 1,100 students. The Foundation is part of the Wisconsin State Telecommunications Association, a trade organization representing more than 65 Incumbent Local Exchange Carriers (including TDS Telecom), Internet Service Providers, and Wireless Carriers in Wisconsin.
