Customers in Hot Springs, Virginia: Planned internet outage

This maintenance work will be conducted during the early morning hours of May 21. The estimated internet service interruption may last 2-10 hours.

Hot Springs, Va. - TDS Telecom has been notified by a national provider that maintenance work will be performed in New York on Saturday, May 21. It will impact the internet service of TDS Telecom customers in Hot Springs, Va. This maintenance work will be conducted during the early morning hours. The estimated internet service interruption may last 2-10 hours.

Due to the complexity of the project in Manhattan, N.Y. the national provider is conducting a “hot cut.” This means all strands of fiber will be cut and then individually repaired, one by one. As soon as the connection is restored services will also be restored.

The time span given is large, but if all goes as planned the outage will be short during the early morning hours.

Local landline calls, including 911, will not be impacted by this situation. Only internet and long distance services will be impacted. However, if you have an Internet Protocol (IP) or VOIP phone, your services will be impacted and you should use an alternative, such as a cellular phone.

You do not need to call in to report your outage when it occurs. You may need to power cycle your modem (turn on and off) after connectivity is restored. We will post any necessary updates on this situation to Facebook and Twitter @tdstelecom; you can use your cellular phone to get these updates.
