TDS to unveil fiber network build before Hobart village board
Project will bring up to 2Gig internet and a new TV competitor to about 4K addresses
TDS Telecommunications LLC (TDS®), headquartered in Madison, Wisconsin, is starting construction on its fiber-optic network build to deliver ultra-fast internet to about 4,000 addresses in Hobart. TDS Manager of Business Development Josh Worrell is speaking at the village board meeting on May 3, 2022 to present the details of project which will offer up to 2Gig (2000 Mbps) internet for residents, and up to 10G dedicated connections for businesses.
“The desire for faster Internet access, and even basic access for some, is something we have been hearing from many of our residents, especially since the COVID pandemic commenced in 2020,” said Village Administrator Aaron Kramer. “The investment being made by TDS in our community, and several other Brown County communities, is something we are eagerly looking forward to. This is truly exciting news for our residents.”
In addition to fiber speeds, TDS’ expansion to Hobart means residents will gain a new choice for TV and phone services.
“We hope the entire community is as excited as we are about this project,” said Worrell. “On behalf of all of us at TDS, we appreciate the warm welcome by village leaders and look forward to working together to bring this highly desired world-class technology infrastructure to residents.”
Construction is expected to start in the next few months. Residents will see crews and equipment from TDS’ construction partner working to bury conduit and fiber cable underground in utility easement areas. The first customers are expected to be connected in before the end of the year, with launches continuing in phases as work is completed.
Residents and businsess can visit TDS’ fiber website, TDSfiber.com, to register for service and review service options. A range of speeds up to 2 gigabit upload and download, TDS TV®+, and phone services will be available to residents. Businesses can choose up to 10 gigabit connections, TDS TV+, and TDS’ hosted VoIP business phone solution, managedIP.
TDS is actively expanding its fiber footprint in its home state, recently announcing plans to triple its fiber service addresses by 2026. The company is building networks in the Fox Cities, Green Bay, and Eau Claire, and recently completed fiber network builds in Wausau and Stevens Point.
