TDS participating in FCC’s Affordable Connectivity Program
TDS Telecom (TDS®) is participating in the Federal Communication Commission’s (FCC) newly established Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) to support broadband connectivity for low-income households. Formerly known as the Emergency Broadband Benefit Program (EBB), Congress has modified the program that provides financial relief for those needing assistance to access internet services. The transition to the new benefit is expected to begin in January.
“Expanding these benefits reflects the need to find solutions to close broadband access gaps,” says Kit Beyer, director of External Affairs & Communications at TDS. “We welcome this action by the FCC so we can continue to offer this support to customers.”
As with the former program, TDS is offering ACP benefits in locations where it currently offers the federal Lifeline program. The updated program allows eligible TDS customers to receive a monthly discount towards the available internet service of their choice. The credit will remain in place until the program funds have been exhausted or the program ends. Taxes and fees may apply. Existing EBB participants will be given the option to automatically continue to receive benefits through the ACP.
“Internet connections have become a vital part of everyday life,” says Beyer. “We applaud this latest investment to help connect households in need; TDS will continue to champion programs that expand availability for all.”
TDS announced its participation in the EBB program in May 2021. Customers interested in more information about TDS’ ACP rollout can visit https://tdstelecom.com/information/affordable-connectivity-program.html or call 1-888-225-5837.
