TDS lights up fiber network to first customers in Eau Claire and Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin
Launch now includes up to 8Gig internet speeds
TDS Telecom’s (TDS®) has powered up the first areas of its all-fiber network in Eau Claire and Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin and is starting installations to both residents and businesses.
The launch of service means the first 4,100 addresses across both communities can choose a new TV and phone provider, as well as up to 8Gig symmetrical internet—the company’s newest and fastest available speed and quadruple what the company promised when it announced its project. Up to 8Gig speeds are also available for commercial customers, as well as up to 10Gig dedicated connections. TDS’ milestone comes about six months after the Madison-headquartered company broke ground in the Chippewa Valley.
“The wait is over and we’re thrilled Eau Claire and Chippewa Falls residents can now experience the difference that fiber makes,” said Andrew Petersen, senior vice president of Corporate Affairs at TDS.
By the end of December, TDS expects to have launched services to nearly 6,000 area addresses. The super-fast infrastructure will continue to power up neighborhood by neighborhood as build work is completed. The company expects to connect about 40,000 addresses across the area when it is complete.
TDS started construction their Eau Claire, Chippewa Falls, and Altoona fiber network projects in mid-May. The construction process includes placing conduit and cable in public utility easement areas. Residents can choose from a range of symmetrical speeds, as well as TDS TV+ and phone to residents. Businesses can order 10Gig dedicated fiber connections, TDS TV+, and TDS’ hosted VoIP business phone solution, managedIP.
The company recently revealed it is investing about a billion dollars to expand its fiber network footprint across Wisconsin. TDS was founded in Wisconsin in 1969 and now serves 32 states.
