TDS expanding fiber network availability in Nelson, Ball Ground, and Marble Hill, Georgia
TDS Telecom (TDS®) is expanding its fiber network in Marble Hill, Nelson, and Ball Ground, Georgia growing the number of addresses with an all-fiber connection. The upgraded network delivers speeds of up to 1Gig (1,000Mbps) internet speeds for residents, and up to 10G dedicated connections for businesses. Super-fast speeds are now available to about 300 more addresses in Marble Hill, and the fiber expansion will impact a total of more than 2,800 addresses across all three communities when the project is complete.
“Fiber networks offer a great internet experience because they’re designed to deliver the fastest, and most robust, internet connections available,” says Andrew Petersen senior vice president of Corporate Affairs at TDS.
Work will continue in the coming months with services becoming available in phases. The process includes hanging and laying underground fiber in residential and business areas and installing fiber-to-the-premise connections.
The company’s upgrades deliver up to 1Gig symmetrical internet speeds, where the upload and download speeds are equal. Although symmetrical connections are the norm with fiber networks, fiber technology access is still not common. A recent Fiber Broadband Association report, stated only about 43% of U.S. households have a fiber-optic network available.
“We’re delighted to make this investment in this state-of-the-art technology so more residents and businesses can benefit now and in the years to come,” says Petersen.
Area business customers will gain access and transport connections up to 10Gig via dedicated fiber and TDS managedIP, a hosted VoIP communications solution.
TDS has been a provider in the area for nearly 35 years. Residents can visit TDSFiber.com/GAfiber to order service and see if their address will be included in the fiber build.
