TDS donates $6K to Dodgeville and Mineral Point, Wis. food voucher programs
Donations will help reduce food insecurity for families
TDS Telecommunications LLC (TDS®) presented checks for $3,000 at both the Dodger Food Locker and the Pointer Pantry to help combat food insecurity in both communities.
“Giving back in the communities we serve is one of our core values at TDS and we do that through volunteering as well as through TDS Cares charitable giving,” explains TDS Associate Manager of Field Marketing Laurie Gerner. “The work that Pointer Pantry and Dodger Food Locker are doing is just so important—not only for children, but also for local families. We were thrilled to support both organizations with a $3,000 donation.”
Both Dodger Food Locker and Pointer Pantry are non-profits that work with their local school districts to identify families in need of assistance and provide vouchers that can be spent on food and other essential supplies.
“During the school week, kids have the opportunity for breakfast and lunch at a free or reduced rate, but on the weekends many times kids go home and have nothing to eat on the weekend and that’s why we exist,” says Janice Grayson, Dodger Food Locker Treasurer.
Grayson says it takes $950 to support one student for a school year and the Dodger Food Locker is currently serving more than 100 kids. “We’re able to do that because of donations—our number one source of donations is from companies and individuals.”
Mo May-Grimm, Chairperson of Pointer Pantry, said their organization has been spending $3,000 a month to assist families in Mineral Point and that all of the donations go directly to children and families.
“None of us get paid for this,” says Mo May-Grimm, Chairperson of the Pointer Pantry. “The only money that doesn’t go right to kids as food certificates is for stamps when we have to renew our 503(c) paperwork.”
TDS, a Madison-headquartered company, recently began construction on fiber network projects in both Dodgeville and Mineral Point to bring up to 8Gig symmetrical internet as well as TV and phone services to both residents and businesses. Included in TDS’ product offerings is a low-cost product for Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) participants. Called TDS Connect, the product includes up to 200Mbps/200Mbps speeds at a price fully covered by the monthly ACP benefit.
